Bibeau’s – Dinosaur Photos Here is a prog band from Texas which I personally love to see. Lots of my friends to the south rightfully complain that they do not get many prog acts down their way. This heavy prog band is really what it says it is. Heavier prog with a Texas flair. I do like the vocals which hearken back to the days of Rob Halford. There is at times some drama. As I listen to this album I consistently like every song but I don't love any song. I think the song writing is on the cusp of becoming exceptional and I look forward to...

Grill is a four piece Rock band based in Sydney, Australia, drawing influences from jazz fusion, world music and experimental rock. According to the band, “‘The Eternal Presence’ is a modern interpretation of their relationship with nature, and through emotive vocals & rich composition GRILL symbolizes the serenity between Man and Earth. Flowing between complex rhythms, soft harmonies, interwoven melodies, and soaring vocals, the album illustrates their journey of understanding.” They note their influences as among others, “Opeth, The...

This Italian band from the city of Vicenza has come at us with a guitar focused rock. This is one part rock, one part hard rock one part jazz and one part rockabilly. I would suspect that this bands live shows are amazing due to the musicianship and decent compositions. There are not a lot of melodies for a guy with my tastes to lock onto so its not really my cup of tea but you should check it out. It is certainly quality album but for my taste it would never bubble up to the top. ALBUM HIGHLIGHTS: Request Blue Jay River Here Click above to...

Mark’s Quick Review: Phideaux’s – Infernal

So, this is a special double album for me to review. I have been a huge Phideaux fan since 2009 and we have been friends nearly as long. This is a perfect example of why I think its a great idea for reviewers to rate their opinion of the band going into a review, which we do above. Infernal has also been one of the most difficult albums to review as it is a double album. I also felt like I needed to listen to the first two albums of the trilogy, The Great Leap and Doomsday Afternoon, before listening to Infernal; therefore, this review is the...

Mystery is a Canadian band which I have only seen live twice but I have seen parts of this album performed live in Germany recently. Jean Pageau is wonderful and a solid replacement for Benoit David. This album has some true highlights for me which you can request below. The album is bookended by two epic songs. The album does a solid job at capturing the live performances thanks to some grandiose parts in the two epics. If you like Mystery this album will not disappoint you. If you were on the fence with this band check out one of the...

I have given this album a few listens. This Texas crossover prog band is well liked in the progrock community. We did see them play at Rosfest, their only concert outside of Austin. I really want to like them but I just can't recommend this album. There is a lot of energy and the bridge's of the songs are pretty good. I like how they have brought some brashy Texas elements into their music as well. I just struggle with the vocals being yelled more than sung. I think their music has more of an impact live. This sounds like Kansas without a...
